Jamaica Bay National Wildlife Refuge, located in the shadow of JFK airport in Queens, NY, is perhaps the best place on the East Coast to photography migrating shorebirds as they head to their wintering grounds. Juvenile and adults of an enormous variety of species can be photographed there, including some rarities from time to time. I spent a good amount of time there this past fall and came back with the images you see here. I hope you like them!

Yale University has some of the most amazing libraries in the world. I went to medical school there and spent some time photographing these impressive buildings.

Sandy Point juts out into the New Haven harbor and provides important habitiat for both terns and plovers. I spent a great deal of time photographing these birds last summer and really enjoyed the time. Luckily, several pairs of skimmers successfully nested their this year as well. I hope that you enjoy this selection of images I made during the time I spent there.

I spend most of my time shooting locally along the central Connecticut shoreline. This stretch of the Long Island Sound harbors an amazing variety of avian species, but unofortunately they can be very difficult to approach. Both Least Terns and Piping Plovers are species threatened by human encroachment on their CT beach habitat. Luckily, efforts have been put into place to protect these nesting species, which has led to increases in their numbers recently. This year in particular was a good year for our local tern and plover colonies and I was fortunate to be able to carefully document some of theeir nesting activities. I hope you the enjoy these images!

Spring is an amazing time for bird watching and photography in Connecticut. Many species of warblers migrate through the state on their way to their breeding grounds in the North and many of our resident birds return from their winter retreats. This past year was my first attempt at photographing warblers and I found it extremely difficult. This gallery contains a few of my successes... there were many more failures. I also have included here a few of our resident species that I shot this past Spring and early Summer.

This gallery is collection of images again from my April 2003 trip to the Ft. Myers/Sanibel/Sarasota region. On this trip, I tried to focus on capturing both images of birds in action or movement as well as close up images showing the amazing detail and color in their plumage. I hope that you like them!

One of my goals for the winter of 2002-3 was to photograph as many ducks as possible. I was lucky enough to be able to photograph many different species of beautiful waterfowl, some of which are shown in this gallery. These images were taken in both Connecticut and New York.

Ft. Myers and nearby Sanibel and Captiva Islands are widely known for their spectacular (and tame) wading birds. This area of the gulf coast is a magical place and never ceases to provide an enormous pallete for making avian images. In addition, the nearby town of Cape Coral has the largest population of burrowing owls in Florida. I returned to the area in April 2003 when the birds were in maginificent breeding plummage and had a blast. As you can see, I also photographed some non-avian subjects as well! This is the first gallery from that wonderful trip.

Unlike those in Florida, Connecticut birds are quite skittish and can be very difficult to approach. I have been improving my skills this winter in approaching our birds without disturbing them, and have been impressed with the results. A number of species of raptors live in Connecticut and I have had the good fortune of observing and photographing a number of these often elusive birds this winter. Some of the images from these encounters are shown here along with images from other birds I have photographed. The Snowy Owl and Kingfisher shots are particularly special to me given the elusive nature and impressive beauty of these birds. Enjoy!

In March 2003 I spent a week on the eastern coast of Florida. I had only a few days to photograph and the weather was tough, but I made the best of it. In this gallery, I tried to capture some of the day to day activity of these beautiful birds. From the nesting activities of Great Egrets to the antics of shorebirds, I hope that you enjoy the images!

This gallery is full of images taken during the last month or so of winter 2003 here in Connecticut and the region. I have been concentrating on shooting ducks, but have also spent some time with smaller, more common birds and even the occasional raptor. Enjoy!

The winter of 2003 was a cold one in Connecticut, but I was still fortunate enough to spend a great deal of time in the field observing and photographing some of the many birds that winter in our state and in the region. Images in this gallery range from ducks to birds of prey and were taken both in Connecticut and in the seaside town of Barnegat Light, NJ. I hope that you enjoy the images!

This is another gallery from my recent duck photography. Aside from the common Mallard, ducks can be difficult to approach. Spending time in the field learning their behavior and often observing their antics can be very rewarding. Hopefully you'll enjoy the images that result from that time!

This gallery is a collection of random photos taken over a few month period in 2002. There is not really a common theme here, except that they represent what I am currently shooting. Some are from Florida, some from Georgia, but most are images I made near my home in Connecticut. Hopefully, you'll like them!

This is the second gallery of photographs from my November 2002 trip to Florida. Rising before sunrise and watching the sunset while observing these magnificent birds was an amazing experience that I am eager to repeat as soon as possible. With these photos, I was trying to capture their interesting behavior and spectacular beauty in the context of the radiant color of their environment. Hopefully, I achieved this goal at least some of the time! Again, I hope that these images give you even a fraction of the joy they gave me in creating them.

The second year show at Yale University School of Medicine is an annual student-run comical production that features skits, video productions, and muscial numbers. The event is one of the highlight's of the second year, but requires an enormous amount of effort from all involved. During last year's show, I played guitar in the pit and thus had a front row to seat to capture some of the magic onstage. These are my favorite images from the rehearsals and the performaces.

This gallery contains the first 10 images from my November 2002 trip to Florida. During this trip, I had the pleasure of photographing many species of birds at world renowned locations such as Ding Darling National Wildlife Refuge. It was a magical trip and I hope you enjoy the pictures as much as I enjoyed making them.

The Bronx Zoo is full of a wide variety of birds from around the globe. The time I spent photographing these birds taught me a good deal about bird photography and catalyzed my interest in photographing wild birds. Because many of these birds are housed indoors, photographing them is a real challenge and often requires more flash than I would ordinarily use. Nontheless, I like the images that I present here and hope that you will too!

This gallery contains a selection of the photographs created during the summer of 2002 along the Connecticut and New York shore. I am fortunate enought to love close to the water and have spent many hours this past summer photographing the great variety of birds that I encountered. I hope that you enjoy looking at these images as much as I enjoyed makign them.

The Bronx Zoo in New York is one of the world's premier zoos. Living within an hour of the zoo has allowed me that chance to visit the animals quite frequently. Being primarily a bird photographer, I tend to concentrate on the animals with wings, but here are a few images of the other animals in the zoo. Because the zoo is not open during the early morning and later afternoon when the light is ideal, making good images there is fairly difficult.

I spend most of my time in the field stalking shorebirds. Photographing shorebirds is a real challenge because they are small, fast, and often skiddish (especially of photographers with large lenses). The best way to approach them is to get down at there level... most of the images in this gallery were shot laying in the mud/sand with the birds. Although messy, this approach allows a close interaction with the birds and makes for great images. I hope that you enjoy them!

The Mute Swan is an introduced species in the United States, but is now common in some areas, including Connecticut. Inhabiting habitats ranging from local ponds to open saltwater, the mute swan may pose a threat to native waterfowl and plant species. The mute swan is one of the birds that got me interested in avian photography and continues to be a great subject.

Ft. Myers Beach (specifically Estero Lagoon) and Sanibel Island are probably my favorite place in the country to photograph birds. The diversity of birds that you can see there in a single day is astounding. These images were made in April 2003 on a wonderful 4 day trip to the area. I hope that you enjoy them!

Living near the Connecticut shore for the past few years I have had the time to explore some of this beautiful area. Most of the images in this gallery were made in the Branford / New Haven area in the south-central part of the state. From lighthouses to beaches and classic New England towns, this area is full of photographic possibilities.
